Hyderabad: Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma today handed over a cheque of Rs 8 lakh to the family of Srinvias, a constable attached to Bahadurpura Police Station, who was electrocuted while discharging duty on Mahashivaratri day.
The deceased constable, while maintaining queue at Kesharbugga at Kishanbagh, came into contact with a live electric wire and collapsed. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital in a police vehicle and died in the hospital while undergoing treatment. Srinivas lost his parents some four years back. He was having one elder brother, a married sister and an unmarried sister. The constable was insured by the “Bhadratha” under Group Accidental Insurance Policy with the New India Assurance Co. Ltd.
As instructed by Dr Soumya Mishra, I/c IGP (Welfare), D.S. Sharma, DGM and S. Satyananada Rao, Regional Manager of New India Assurance Co. Ltd. came forward to settle the ex-gratia amount of Rs.8 lakh within three days. As per the request made by the family members of deceased constable, an amount of Rs 5 lakh was given to his unmarried sister Saritha, Rs 3 lakh to his elder brother Laxman, who is the guardian of the family by the DGP on Monday in his chambers in the presence of Sudeep Lakhtakia, ADGP (L&O); Dr Soumya Mishra, I/c IGP (Welfare), A. Gopal Reddy, Secretary, Bhadratha, D.S. Sharma, DGM & S. Satyananada Rao, Regional Manager of New India Assurance Co. Ltd. and State Assn. president, Hyderabad City Association president and Inspector of Bahadurpura PS. This was the first case in which the New India Assurance Co. has come forward for settlement of ex-gratia within three days in the last eight years. (NSS)
