Death of Zainab Fatima exposed Sri Chaitanya’s illegal schools

Hyderabad: The ghasty incident at the Sri Chaitanya Kids School, where the four-year-old Syeda Zainab Fatima Jaffri died in an elevator mishap on Tuesday, highlights that the play school does not have permission from the State Education Board.

The school located near Moosarambagh in Dilsukhnagar area where hundreds of students admitted has been illegaly functioning for over four years.

“According to guidelines of the school education department, the category of pre-primary school does not exist. Hence all the play schools, kindergarten schools and nurseries, are being run without permission. Sri Chaitanya Star Kids school did not have any permission too,” said Somi Reddy, district education officer (DEO), Hyderabad.

The Sri Chaitanya Kids School management had duped the Education Board officers when they raided a few schools in June and July. And when they inspect at Dilsukhnagar branch in June, the school management convinced them that it was just a playschool.

The Sri Chaitanya Group had used a technical flaw in the government’s education policy to run the schools without authorisation from the school education department.

After this tragic incident, the district education authorities have woke up and learned that there were thousands of other primary schools in Great Hyderabad limits running without permission.

“We have now found that there are hundreds of such schools run by the Chaitanya Group as playschools in the twin cities and nearest districts. We are starting legal procedures against the management,” said Mr Reddy.
