Death toll rises to 111 in TN; Centre assures assistance

Chennai, Nov. 19 : The death toll due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu has risen to 111.

The Met office has forecast that rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in the state for the next four days.

The well-marked low pressure lying over west Bay of Bengal and Andhra coast will bring in isolated rainfall in north Tamil Nadu.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has announced Rs. four lakh each for the families of those who died in rain-related incidents.

She has also spoken to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking central assistance after damage assessment of the rains.

The Home Minister has assured Jayalalithaa that the central team would be sent to Tamil Nadu immediately on receipt of the memorandum from the state government.

“Spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr. J Jayalalitha who apprised me of the flood situation in the state,” Singh tweeted

“The Centre is assisting the state agencies of Tamil Nadu in rescue and relief ops. Assured TN CM of all possible help,” he said in a series of tweets. (ANI)
