Death toll from Madinah hotel fire falls to 15

At least 15 people were killed and 130 others were wounded in a fire that broke out at a hotel housing Muslim pilgrims in the holy city of Madinah in western Saudi Arabia on Saturday, local authorities said.

The blaze started at Ishraq al-Madinah Hotel at about 2 p.m., the Madinah Governorate said in a statement.

But Egyptian diplomat Adel al-Alfi said that the number of Egyptians among the dead has risen to nine.

Authorities said earlier that 15 had died in yesterday’s fire. Egypt originally said that among them were five Egyptians.

The official Saudi press agency quoted today Medina’s health authorities as saying 130 injured.
