Prosecutors plan to seek the death sentence for Hick who admitted to gunning down three Muslim students in North Carolina last month.
As a report from the New York Times, friends of the murdered students in Chapel Hill believe killer Craig Stephen Hicks had become ‘obsessed’ with one of his victims because she wore head scarf daily as a sign of her faith.
Durham County District Attorney Roger Echols filed papers in court that show he plans to seek the death sentence if Craig Stephen Hicks is convicted of first-degree murder.
A hearing is set for next month on Echol’s request to seek the death penalty if Hicks is convicted.
The accused has confessed to murder charged with killing 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat; his wife, 21-year-old Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha; and her sister, 19-year-old Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, on Feb. 10, two miles from the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Search warrant found 12 firearms, including four pistols and a Bushmaster AR-15, in the apartment which he shared with his wife.
