Bajrang Dal and Viswa Hindu Parishad of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh units today staged a dharna at Abids demanding withdrawal of a memo issued by central zone Deputy Commissioner of Police restricting his subordinates not to take up “Sabarimala” deeksha.
Condemning the DCP’s memo, Bajrang Dal alleged that the police officer’s action amounts to interference in Hindu religion affairs and injuring sentiments of the majority community. VHP and Bajarang Dal today organized protests across Telangana State against the memo issued by the DCP on November 25.
According to Bharat Vamsi, media in-charge, the police officer has asked the cops not to take “Sabarimala” deeksha while on duty. If they want to take deeksha, they (police personnel) will have to take leave. He said the State government should treat all religions equally and refrain from playing vote bank politics. Anybody working in Police department can take “Sabarimala” Deeksha and Bajrang Dal and VHP would protect them, he added. (NSS)
