A day long hunger strike of Hyderabad Union of Journalists

Hyderabad, April 29 (Siasat News): A day long hunger strike of Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) affiliated to Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) was organized at Press Club Basheer Baug in protest against the IPS official Anjenayalu who was promoted as commissioner of police, Vijayawada.

Many political leaders, editors and senior journalists of different newspapers reached the camp to show their solidarity with the journalists on strike.

Prominent among them were M/s Zahid Ali Khan, editor Siasat, Amer Ali Khan, news editor Siasat, Shankar Rao MLA congress, G Kishan Reddy, president state BJP, Jai Prakash Narayan, MLA Loksatta, K Ramachander Murthy, managing director HMTV, Amjadullah Khan Khaled (MBT) and others.

In his address, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan said that there was a time when police department was under the supervsion of the government and police always followed the instructions of the government but now, the situation is reversed.

There are people who are against the freedom of press and trying their best harm it.

Ironically, such people are the part of government. He condemned the promotion of Anjenayalu as police commissioner and said sarcastically that in the past, government used to reward those officers who used to perform par excellence but now the yardstick and standard of the government is changed.

The government is promoting those officers who are involved in assaulting and harassing the journalist community. He said that it is high time that Chief Minister K Rosaiah should implement the recommendations Press council of India and take stern action against the culprit officials.

He showered his accolades on the Journalist community and said whenever it faced any crisis, they showed immense unity led by senior journalists.

This trend should be continued. Mr. Amer Ali Khan in his address said that the past or the present government of any party is always under the impression that Journalists or Journalistic Organizations criticize it whereas the fact is the Journalists are trying to mirror the government, which could see its own right and wrong-doings.

He opined that this kind of situation should not arise next time and for this, stern action is to be taken against Anjaneyalu.

Those who participated in hunger strike camp include M/s Soma Sunder, Y Narender Reddy, Syed Khalil Mohiuddin Quadri, Faiz Mohd. Asghar, D Amar, Taher Rumani, K Amarnath, Mohd. Mubashiruddin Khurram, Nayeem Wajahat, Syed Amir Hassan Habeeb, Mohd. Shareef, Riyaz, Koti Reddy,
Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin and others.
