Day-long doctors” strike in Kerala; govt hospitals affected

Thiruvananthapuram, May 03: Functioning of government hospitals acoss Kerala was affected today due to a day-long token strike called by doctors under the state health services to demand rectification of anomalies in the last pay commission.

Doctors kept off from out patient sections in the general, district and taluk hospitals in response to the strike call given by Kerala Government Medical Officers Association.

However, Directorate of Health Service said alternative arrangements had been put in place in all hospitals to avoid any inconvenience to patients.

Doctors have been deployed in the hospitals, official sources said. “We have so far not received any report about disruption of work in government hospitals”, they said.

Today”s token strike was a prelude to the indefinite strike which will be called by doctors from June 10 if their demands were not met, the association said.

Doctors under the health department have been observing a non-coperation strike since February. The doctors have not been attending any outside duties like immunisation programmes.
