David Dhawan wants to play safe

Mumbai, June 20: David Dhawan is being careful about every little detail in his next film, Hook Ya Crook. To give the film’s soundtrack a realistic feel, he asked the film’s music director, Pritam, to do away with thumping beats and compose a song that doesn’t have any jazzy musical instruments playing in the background and instead use anything that could be found in a jail in which the film is set.

The song titled Tappo, which means ‘jump’ in Punjabi, features John Abraham dancing with some jail inmates. A source said, “David thought that the jail sequence would look more authentic with real music. So he wanted almost no instruments playing in the song.”

Pritam took it as a challenge and steered away from the usual musical instruments. “I did away with my keyboard, guitar and drums and summoned percussionist Taufeeq Qureshi. We made music with an ashtray, a thaali, metal dustbins, spoons, tables and cans. Qureshi works with a group of people who are experts at making music with such objects. I first composed the tune using my usual instruments and then Quershi’s boys played it. The song took six days to record,” said Pritam.
