NEW DELHI: Shaista, youngest daughter of Mohammad Akhlaq Saifi, who was lynched by a furious mob on September 28, 2015 on suspicion of consuming beef was married off to a Delhi-based civil engineer on Sunday.
According to a report in Times Of India, the marriage ceremony was hosted at a banquet hall in Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar.
First joyous occasion
Four years and two months after the death of Akhlaq, Sunday’s event was the first joyous occasion in the family.
Akhlaq’s entire family, including his wife Ikraman, daughter Mumtaz, sons Mohammad Sartaj, a corporal in Indian Air Force and Danish, and brothers Jameel Ahmed, Afzal Ahmed and Jaan Mohammad, were all came together, not to grieve but to celebrate the “mubarak mauka.”
Dressed in red attire and jewellery, 24-year-old Shaista looked resplendent while exchanging vows with the groom Mehboob Alam Saifi, from Pilkhuwa in Hapur district.
It is also being said that no one from the Uttar Pradesh’s Bisara village was invited to the wedding.
Murderous attack
Akhlaq, 52, was at his home when a mob barged in, took out meat from his fridge, alleged it was beef which his family was consuming and carried out a murderous attack.
Akhlaq was lynched shortly after the loudspeaker in the village temple was used to announce that the 50-year old Muslim man had slaughtered a calf.
After the announcement from the temple, fellow villagers broke down the door to his house and searched it for beef. Akhlaq was killed and his family members injured.
