Daughter leaves mother unburied for money

Wirral, June 15: A television actress left her 95-year-old mother unburied for nearly six months, in an attempt to benefit from her pension.

Hazel Maddock, 61, an actress who has appeared alongside ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman, and her 35-year-old artist daughter, Jasmine, admitted denying a lawful burial to Olive Maddock when they were presented to the court.

The two accused shared a dilapidated home together with the victim Wallasey, Wirral, Merseyside, UK.

Neighbours suspected foul play when they didn’t see Olive for days together and called the police, who broke open the door and found the Olive’s body lying on the floor.

Both the accused were granted bail by the Liverpool Crown Court but likely to get jail terms for multiple offences.

Apart from unlawful prevention of Olive’s burial, the pair also face charges of dishonestly making a false representation that the deceased was still alive and entitled to receive pension benefits between July 6 and August 6.

The lie enabled them to obtain one payment of Olive’s state pension of £176.92 and a single payment of pension credit of £34.44.

The pair pleaded guilty to the charges at the court.
