Dattatraya sad on tardy construction of two bedroom houses

Hyderabad: Former Union minister and Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatraya today expressed dismay on the tardy construction works of double bed room housing scheme taken up by the State government.
Dattatraya, along with GHMC officials, visited various areas where houses are under construction. The BJP senior leader visited areas of GYR compound Jeera, Chacha Nehrunagar, Jeera basthi in Bansilalpet division under Sanathnagar constituency.

He expressed concern that in spite of the Central government’s financial help for the construction of houses under various schemes, the TRS government has failed to initiate steps for checking out laxity in the construction of houses in the State. The TRS government had announced that it would construct 1,15,000 houses under the GHMC limits under double bed room scheme and handover to eligible beneficiaries by March 2019. As per the scheme, 1506 double bed room houses in Sanatnagar constituency, 399 in Secunderabad, 330 in Musheerabad, 490 houses in Khairtabad has to be constructed.

Dattatraya said newly constructed houses were given to beneficiaries within three years when he was Urban Development Minister in 2002. These houses were constructed under VAMBAY and JNNURM schemes. 25,000 houses constructed under Rajiv Gruha Kalpa and Rajiv Sway Gruh schemes are still incomplete, he lamented.

Alleging that the State government has failed to provide houses to poor people, Dattatreya said the State government has neglected in providing houses to needy people, though about 2.40 lakh applications under Pradhan Mantri Avas Yojana and one lakh applications for double bed room schemes are pending in the office of GHMC. He said Modi government has given Rs 240 crore for construction of houses under the jurisdiction of GHMC. The centre also provided Rs 35,336 crore for construction of houses under various schemes to the State government.
