Dattanna Blames T Govt for Failure to Spend Drought Relief Funds

Union minister for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya today assured that the government would extend all possible help in taking up drought relief works in affected districts of Telangana state.

Speaking to media here, the union minister said the NDA government has already given Rs 318 crore to Telangana government to take up works under drought relief. But the state government has not spent this amount, Dattatreya said adding that the centre has also released a sum of Rs 792 crore as input subsidy for Telangana state.

 

Dattatreya said he has visited three villages in the districts of Khammam, Medak and Karimnagar where severe drought situation prevailed. He expressed concern over the condition of farmers of these villages where drought is very severe. The situation is so alarming that there is scarcity of drinking water and no fodder to the cattle, he said.

The Union government is contemplating to increase the monthly wages of contract labourers up to Rs 10,000. ‘We have sent recommendations to the law minister to consider the proposal for increasing of minimum wages of contract laborers, the union minister said.(NSS)
