The Maha Samprokashanam festival was performed with religious fervor in the temple of Sri Anjaneyaswami and Anjanadevi at Akasha Ganga Teertham, near Tirumala shrine of Lord Venkateswara and the darshan of the presiding deities made open for the pilgrim public by TTD Executive Officer MG Gopal after the ritual on Sunday.

Hamalis thank KCR Govt for hiking charges

Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation Hamali Workers’ Union working president Ch. Srinivas and Hamali Srinanna on Sunday hailed the KCR government for hiking Hamali charges.
It may be mentioned here that the TRS government on Saturday increased the Hamali charges for handling commodities from the present Rs 8 to Rs.12 per quintal. The government also increased ex gratia amount to be given to Hamalis during Dasara festival from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. Funeral charges were also increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

KEK, Bojjala offer prayers in srivari temple

AP Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy and Forest Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy offered prayers in the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala on Sunday.

Immersion of Ganesh idols in city begins

The immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad has begun from Sunday. For the purpose, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation authorities have made all arrangements at the Tankbund for immersion of idols. The city police also tightened security at the lakes.
As Sunday being the third day of the 10-day Ganesh festival, a large number of devotees in the twin cities started immersing the post-puja idols in the lakes. The authorities said more idols are likely to be immersed in the Hussainsagar from Monday onwards. (NSS)

Telugu filmmaker Bapu is dead

Renowned Telugu filmmaker Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana aka Bapu died here at his residence Sunday, his family said. He was 80.

“He passed away following a cardiac arrest. He was struggling with illness for the last few months,” Bapu’s brother Sattiraju Shankar Narayana told IANS.

Born Dec 15, 1933, Bapu started his career as a cartoonist for Telugu newspaper Andhra Patrika.

His filmmaking career started with 1960 Telugu film “Sakshi”, whose story and dialogues were by his best friend Mullapudi Venkata Ramana.

Inward foreign investment $30 bn for 2014, cumulative over $200 bn

Investments by overseas investors in India this year reached $30 billion, while cumulative total inflows into the country crossed the $200-billion mark.

Data from November 1992 since foreign institutional investors (FIIs) began investing in Indian markets shows the cumulative figure is made up of about $159 billion investments into equities and about $42 billion in debt markets.

Deviprasad drops idea to contest in Medak

Telangana Council of Higher Education Council chairman T Papi Reddy today alleged that the AP Council of Higher Education was trying to dominate with regard to EAMCET 2014 Counseling.
Talking to mediapersons here, Papi Reddy maintained that they would not tolerate any longer the domination of the AP Council in this regard. Counseling process was completed as per Supreme Court guidelines and classes should be conducted from September 1. However, the APSCHE was trying to come in the way of the process, he alleged.

Miffed Kerala BJP to open up before Amit Shah

BJP’s Kerala unit leaders, piqued over non-inclusion in the national body, said at a two-day meeting that began here Sunday that they will complain to party chief Amit Shah.

Cartoonist Bapu Passes Away

Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana, popularly known as Bapu died in Chennai on Sunday evening. He was 80.

According to family sources, Bapu died of heart attack while undergoing treatment for some age-related ailments at Mallar Hospital in Chennai.

He was a music artiste, painter, illustrator, cartoonist and designer. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri, for his contribution to Indian art and cinema. He directed 51 films in his career. Of them, the number of Hindi films were 12. The last film he directed was “Sriramarajyam” starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Nayanatara.

The three BJP-governed municipal corporations in Delhi will Sep 6 launch a 15-day cleanliness drive in the city that will focus on back lanes and vacant plots.

The drive will focus on back lanes, vacant plots in residential colonies and spaces around rail tracks, under flyovers or near parks etc. where people often dump garbage, Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Satish Upadhyay said.

“Special stress shall be laid on sanitation in unauthorised and resettlement colonies,” he said.

Drunk constable steals police car, hits four people

A drunk Haryana traffic police constable, who drove away the official vehicle of a station house officer (SHO) and injured four people in an accident, has been charged with robbery and attempt to cause death, police said Sunday.

Constable Surinder Singh, in a drunken state Saturday, drove away the official vehicle of Sadar police station SHO Vijay Kumar, and hit a man on a bicycle, a pedestrian and an auto-rickshaw carrying at least two people.

He was caught by the public after the car hit a footpath near Fazilpur Chowk.

Two critically injured people were admitted to hospital.

BJP expresses concern over rise in crime against women

BJP deputy floor in Assembly NVSS Prabhakar on Sunday expressed concern over the rise in crime against women in Telangana.

Kiev, Moscow discuss next aid convoy for Ukraine’s war-torn east

A second convoy of Russian humanitarian aid for the embattled eastern Ukraine is being discussed, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Council for National Security and Defence told reporters Sunday.

“A note came from Russia, informing about its plans to dispatch humanitarian cargo,” Andrei Lysenko said.

He said both sides were discussing plans to send the cargo by railway and hand over to officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The amount of aid and the date of dispatch were being discussed, he said.
