‘Gangnam Style’ has become the first YouTube video to get a record breaking 2 billion views.

Psy’s hit track surpassed Justin Bieber’s ‘ Baby ‘, which has half the number of views, The Verge reported.

The music video took three times longer time to get the 2 billion mark, as it had hit 1 billion in just 159 days since its release in July 2012. (ANI)

Masked men attack Pakistani daily Jang’s editor

Unidentified masked men attacked resident editor of the Pakistani daily Jang and left him injured near Western Ford Colony in Multan, media reported Sunday.

Zafar Aheer was attacked Saturday when he was moving back home after his job, Geo News reported.

Aheer said the attackers stopped his car near his residence and started beating him, the report said.

“The attackers beat me a lot, tore my clothes and snatched my mobile phone,” Aheer was quoted as saying.

The attackers threw bullets in front of Aheer’s car before escaping the site.

Prez rule in T’gana to be revoked tomorrow; to continue in AP

President’s rule imposed in united Andhra Pradesh will be revoked partially tomorrow to facilitate swearing-in of a government in the newly-created Telangana headed by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao.

However, the central rule will continue in the residual Andhra Pradesh till TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu takes charge as Chief Minister a week later.

A notification is expected to be issued tomorrow morning revoking President’s rule in Telangana to facilitate Rao in taking charge as the first Chief Minister of the country’s 29th state.

HC acquits man in 15-year-old rape case of minor

A man, awarded a seven-year jail term by a trial court for raping a minor, has been acquitted in the 15-year-old case by the Delhi High Court which held that physical relations between them were consensual.

Setting aside the trial court’s decision of convicting and sentencing Bihar resident Rameshwar Giri on charges of kidnap and rape in 2001, a bench headed by Justice Indermeet Kaur said the girl was conscious of her act and it cannot be termed as an act of force.

Dust storm, rain likely in Delhi

It was a cloudy and windy Sunday morning in Delhi with the minimum temperature recorded two notches below the season’s average at 25.6 degrees Celsius. The Met office has forecast dust storms and rain in some areas.

“Dust storms and thundershowers accompanied by squall may occur in some areas of the city,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Humidity recorded at 8.30 a.m. was 42 percent.

Sangakkara ton just enough as Sri Lanka see off England

Kumar Sangakkara’s first century at Lord’s laid the platform for Sri Lanka’s nailbiting seven-run series-levelling win against England in the fourth one-day international.

Action plan to prevent train accidents due to fractured rail

The Railway Ministry has drawn up an action plan to prevent mishaps like the Gorakhdham Express accident on May 26 which resulted from fractured rail.

The accident which claimed about 26 lives and injured several others was caused due to fractured rails, according to a preliminary report.

Accidents due to fractured rails at regular intervals have caused a serious concern to the national transporter.

5 years jail for man for sexually assaulting 7-yr-old daughter

A Delhi court has sentenced a man here to five years in jail for sexually assaulting his seven-year-old daughter, born out of his live-in relationship.

Additional sessions judge Pawan Kumar Jain awarded the jail term to the Timarpur resident, after holding him guilty under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the IPC.

The court said being her father, it was the man’s duty to protect the child but he chose her to satisfy his lust.

Raj Thackeray declares to contest Maharashtra Assembly polls

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday made a major announcement by declaring his intention to contest in the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year.

He also said that if his party (MNS) wins the Assembly polls then he will become the chief minister.

It is a first in the history of sorts where someone from the Thackeray family is contesting elections.

According to media reports Maharashtra is slated to hold Assembly elections this October to elect a new 288 member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. (ANI)

Amid a controversy over TRS not inviting the Prime Minister for the swearing-in ceremony of Telangana Chief Minister-designate K Chandrasekhar Rao on June 2, the party today said it will invite Narendra Modi for the formation day celebrations of the state likely in mid-June.

Ukraine halts military products supplies to Russia

Ukraine has suspended supplies of arms, military hardware and its components to Russia since March, Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov said Saturday.

“Russia cannot receive arms that have been prepaid,” Xinhua quoted the minister as saying.

Components for Russia’s military-industrial complex at present amounted to about 50 billion roubles ($143 million), he said.

Borisov said such action might negatively affect Ukrainian enterprises.

US soldier freed by Taliban in Afghanistan

A US soldier held by the Taliban in their custody for nearly five years in Afghanistan was released Saturday in a deal which included freeing five Afghan detainees in exchange, authorities here said.

The detainees were released from the US prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and handed over to Qatar, which mediated the transfer.

US Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, 28, was handed over to US forces in good health, BBC quoted the US officials as saying. Sgt. Bergdahl was the only US soldier being held by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Officials said the Taliban handed him over Saturday evening.
