Al-Qaida’s leader says a prisoners’ hunger strike in Guantanamo Bay has revealed the “odious” face of America and claims that the terror network will spare no effort to free prisoners held at the US military-run detention
center in Cuba.

Ayman Al-Zawahri spoke in a 22-minute audio message posted on the Internet today.

The strike by our brothers in Guantanamo reveals the real odious and ugly face of America.

We pledge God that we will spare no efforts to set them free,” he said.

Seven Assam youths held captive in Himachal

Fourteen youths from Assam’s Darrang district were allegedly sold and held captive at Mandi in Himachal Pradesh with seven of them managing to escape and return home, police said today.

The youths, hailing from Bejpara village in Mangaldoi police station, were allegedly taken by a group of people on the pretext of giving job but were sold to unidentified persons and held captive at a roadside eatery (dhaba) at Mandi.

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri said vthat Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah had been exposed as a tool of Iranian expansionism, in an audio message posted online today.

CPRF constable ends life

A 29-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable allegedly committed suicide here today after his marriage proposal was refused by girl’s family due to his addiction to alcohol, police said.

Balasamy, posted in Assam, had come to his native place Kosavampatty on a month’s leave for his marriage. He along
with his family members had gone to Chennai to see a girl,they said.

However, as he was found allegedly drunk, the girl’s family refused to entertain the proposal, they said.

Petrol price hiked by 70p a litre, diesel by 50p

Petrol price was today hiked by 70 paisa per litre, the fifth increase in rates in two months, and diesel by 50 paisa per litre on firming international oil prices.

The increase in rates, which will be effective midnight tonight, are excluding local sales tax or VAT. The actual
hike will be higher and will vary from city to city.

Petrol price in Delhi will go up by 84 paisa to Rs 71.28 per litre while it will cost Rs 78.61 per litre in Mumbai as against Rs 77.73 currently.

African delegation meets Egypt’s Morsi

Madras High Court today reserved orders on a petition seeking a CBI probe into the recent murder of BJP Tamil Nadu unit General Secretary V Ramesh.

First Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and Justice M Sathyanarayanan reserved orders without mentioning a date on the petition filed by Ramesh’s friend Manoharan of Salem district.

The petitioner submitted that Ramesh’s murder involved different extremist groups in various places and hence he
wanted transfer of the probe to the CBI.

After Telangana, clamour for reorganisation of Uttar Pradesh

As decks were cleared for creation of a separate Telangana state, there was a clamour today for reorganisation of Uttar Pradesh with Union Minister Jairam Ramesh saying the “current structure” of the state is
“ungovernable” administratively.

HC exempts MNS chief from personal appearance in criminal case

The Delhi High Court today exempted MNS chief Raj Thackeray from personal appearance before a lower court, which is hearing one of the complaints lodged against him for allegedly making hate speeches against Bihar natives.

Justice S P Garg will now hear on December 4 as many as nine petitions of Thackeray filed against various orders of trial courts in Bihar and Jharkhand which had taken cognisance of private complaints against the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief.

With GJM (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) renewing the demand for Gorkhaland in Darjeeling following UPA unanimously endorsing creation of a separate Telangana state, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday ruled out division of West Bengal and blamed the Congress for the agitation in the hills.

Telangana unlikely to be discussed in tomorrow’s Cabinet meet

Congress defends Telangana decision

A day after it approved creation of a separate Telangana state, the Congress Wednesday hailed it as a historic decision and defended the move, saying it has been received well in the country.

“It is a historic decision based on a long-pending demand,” Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal told reporters.

“It has been accepted well in the country and by the political parties by and large. There is enthusiasm in Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

MIM to fight for rights of Muslims in both states

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Wednesday said it will have its presence in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states and will fight for protecting the rights of Muslims.

MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who had opposed the division of Andhra Pradesh, demanded that the governments in both the states continue four percent reservation being currently provided to Muslims in jobs and education.

The MP from Hyderabad also sought first language status to Urdu along with Telugu in Telangana and hoped that Urdu will enjoy the status of second official language in the other state.

Telangana: TDP seeks Centre’s support to develop new capital

The Telugu Desam Party has asked the Centre to immediately constitute a committee of experts to assess the quantum of funds required to develop a new capital city for Andhra Pradesh state subsequent to the formation of Telangana state.

‘According to our rough estimates, a staggering Rs 4-5 lakh crore will be required to build a new capital and comprehensively create necessary infrastructure. The new capital should be developed on par with Hyderabad,’ TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here today.

Harasshed by school teachers, teenage girl ends life

A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide in Nagaur district after being insulted and harassed by the principal and two other teachers of her school.

The 15-year-old, who was studying in the government higher secondary school in Kuchaman town, ended life by jumping into a well last night, said police officer Suresh Soni, who is investigating the case.

In her suicide note, she alleged that the principal and two teachers of the school had insluted and harassed her, Soni said.

A case has been registered in this regard, but no one has so far been questioned, he said.
