Nine killed during New Year celebrations in AP

The New Year began on a tragic note with nine people, including revellers, getting killed in four separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh.

Two youngsters celebrating the New Year were killed in the upmarket Jubliee Hills here when a speeding car hit their motorcycle. Police said the accident took place around 1.30 a.m.

Now show soft copy of plane tickets to enter into airports

Air travellers can now enter airports by showing a soft display of air tickets on their smart-phones, tablets and laptops.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which is the nodal agency for civil aviation security, has issued orders for acceptability of soft display of tickets on laptops, tablets and smart-phones at the entry point of airport, an official spokesperson said.

Currently, it is mandatory for travellers to carry printout of the e-ticket along with their valid identity cards to enter into the airport.

Irregularies in D.S.C test- Review meeting tomorrow

Mr. Parthasarathy, Minister of Education told that D.S.C test was held in 2012 for the recruitment of the teachers in Govt schools. Many complaints have been received in the recruitment of teachers.

In order to review all these complaints, a meeting will be held on 2nd January. Ms. Minnie Mathew, Chief Secretary will preside over the meeting.

This was disclosed by Mr.Parthasrathy in a press conference held at Secretariat yesterday.

Iran test-fires missiles, torpedoes

The Iranian Navy has “successfully” test-fired missiles and torpedoes in an ongoing naval drill, the official media reported.

The six-day drill dubbed Velayat 91 was launched Friday in southern Iran.

The latest version of the indigenously built surface-to-air medium-range Ra’d (Thunder) missile and the short-range cruise missile Nasr (Victory) were tested.

Nasr can destroy vessels of up to 3,000 tonnes, Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said.

The navy also successfully test-fired torpedoes by destroying targets, Xinhua quoted the Press TV as saying.

Pakistan frees four Afghan Taliban leaders

Pakistan has freed four senior Taliban leaders, including a former justice minister, at the request of the Afghan government.

Ex-Taliban justice minister Mullah Nuroddin Turabi was among those released Monday, a senior official of the Pakistani foreign ministry said, requesting anonymity.

The move is expected to help build momentum to the Afghan peace process.

Former Taliban communications minister Allah Dad, ex-governor of Helmand province Mullah Abdul Bari and former Taliban guard Muhammad Azeem were also released, Xinhua reported.

Maharashtra facing shortage of IAS officers

Facing shortage of officers of the IAS cadre, the Maharashtra Government has sought that the Centre earmark 15 per cent of the IAS officers recruited every year to the state. “Out of the total recruitment of IAS officers in the country per year, we have sought 15 per cent for the state,” an official spokesperson said today. There has been an acute shortage of IAS officers in the state at present with 66 vacancies. There are 284 officers of the IAS cadre in Maharashtra against the sanctioned strength of 350, he said.

Delhi gang-rape: Post-mortem report expected today

The post-mortem report of the 23-year-old medical student, who was brutally gang-raped and tortured by six men on moving bus in the national capital a fortnight ago, is expected on Tuesday.

As per reports, the post-mortem report will help Delhi Police in establishing the involvement of the six accused in the case.

The Delhi Police has already prepared a 1000-page strong draft chargesheet, which it plans to submit in a local court here on Thursday.

‘Cyber stalker’ arrested for harassing girl through Internet

In the first incident of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir, police has arrested an alleged ‘cyber stalker’ who was harassing a girl by putting objectionable contents about her on the Internet. “Police received a complaint from a girl in Srinagar that she was being harassed by some Cyber Stalker, who was disseminating obscene material and comments against her in cyberspace,” a police spokesman said today. He said during the investigations, it was found that the accused was operating a fake ‘Facebook’ account.

Freedom fighter Jagannath Prasad Choubey dies

Freedom fighter Jagannath Prasad Choubey died here after a prolonged illness, family sourcses said.

89-year old Chaubey breathed his last on Sunday night.

Born in Bedla village here, Choubey participated in freedom movement and jailed during the movement.

He is survived by two daughters, the sources said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoled the death of Choubey, saying his contribution would always be remembered.

Police slaps case against English daily

Delhi Police on Monday registered a case against an English daily for publishing material which could lead to the identification of the 23-year-old gangrape victim who died two days ago.

The case was registered at Vasant Vihar police station under section 228-A (punishment for printing or publishing the name or any matter which may make known the identity of any person against whom rape is committed) of Indian Penal Code.

Sources said the case has been registered against the Editor, Publisher, Printer, two correspondents and concerned photographers.

IPS officer suspended on charges of corruption

Andhra Pradesh government on Monday placed an Indian Police Service officer under suspension for allegedly indulging in corrupt practices.

In an order issued today, state Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew said the officer, M Naganna of 2000 batch currently serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the City Armed Reserve Headquarters in Hyderabad, had indulged in corrupt practices while working as Superintendent of Railway Police at Vijayawada previously.

Fake degree certificate racket busted; five held

City police on Monday busted a fake degree certificate racket and arrested five ‘directors’ of private colleges and institutes in this connection.

Several fake rubber stamps of various universities, a laptop, a computer and other materials were seized from the possession of the accused, a senior police officer said.

“We recovered a total of 580 fake educational certificates of SSC, diploma and degree courses run by 22 universities, open schools and other institutes in the country from the accused”, Police Commissioner Sivadhar Reddy told reporters today.

‘Aap so jao, main bhi ab soungi’, were gangrape victim’s last words, says father

“Aap so jao, main bhi ab soungi”, (You sleep, I’ll also go to sleep) were the 23-year-old gangrape victim’s last words, as she spoke in a feeble voice to her father, a drop of tear fell from her eye, and she went to deep slumber on Dec 26 from which she never woke up.

Delhi tabloid Mail Today’s reporter spoke to the victim’s father, who said, the victim never woke up from her sleep in Delhi’s Safdarjang Hospital on Dec 26, a day after Christmas.

“She last spoke to me on Wednesday at 9.30 pm. I went to see her in the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) in Safdarjung Hospital.
