According to Mr. Mohammad Khaja Moinuddin, general secretary Minorities Development Forum a meeting in connection with the distribution of Senior Citizen Card will be held on May 2, at Mahboob Husain Jigar Hall, Siasat premises at 4 pm.

US F-22 warplanes no hreat to Iran: MP

An Iranian lawmaker says deployment of US F-22 Raptor stealth fighters at an airbase in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is nothing new and cannot be considered a threat to the Islamic Republic.

Member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Ebrahimi stressed that the UAE will never be able to use its military equipment against Iran, Majlis official news agency, ICANA, quoted him as saying on Monday.

Iran will never stop uranium enrichment

Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says the country will never stop its uranium enrichment program but hopes the upcoming talks with the agency in mid-May will be successful.

In an interview with Reuters published on Monday the Iranian envoy expressed hope that negotiations between Iran and the IAEA “will be very constructive and successful.”

“The main purpose is to negotiate on a modality and framework to resolve outstanding issues and remove ambiguities,” he said.

Hashemi, associates charged with killing six judges

Iraqi judiciary has charged fugitive Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi and some of his associates with killing six judges ahead of their trial.

A judicial spokesman said on Monday Hashemi and his bodyguards will face terrorism charges, including the killing of six judges, during their trial that is to open on Thursday.

“There are many crimes of which Hashemi and his bodyguards are accused and confessions were obtained on them, including the assassination of six judges, mostly from Baghdad,” Higher Judicial Council spokesman Abdelsattar Bayraqdar said in a statement.

US may reopen old jail for NATO summit protesters

A US official says he may reopen a mothballed jail in Illinois to serve as a detention facility for arrested protesters during a NATO summit next month.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says that the Joliet Correctional Center could be temporarily reopened to house those arrested for offenses during the May 20-21 summit.

13 killed in copter crash

Officials in Colombia say a Colombian air force helicopter has crashed near the Caribbean coast and all 13 people aboard have been killed.

Atlantico state civil defence director Jorge Fernandez says the aircraft crashed in a field in a rural area of the town of Sabanagrande.

Two officials who spoke on condition they not be further identified put the death toll at 13. Both say they were not authorised to disclose the number.

They say that the aircraft caught fire as it fell to the ground and that police and air force personnel were aboard.

Air travel from Mumbai to become costlier

The cost of air travel from the city will go up by Rs 600 for those flying to overseas destinations and by Rs 100 for domestic travellers with the levy of development fee from Tuesday.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed all the air-carriers to collect development fee from passengers and subsequently deposit the same with Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which is managing the airport, a Aeronautical Information circular issued today said.

Govt denies media reports on pending files

The Chief Minister Office (CMO) today dismissed reports of about thee lakh files pending with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. A section of media has been publishing baseless stories without verifying facts with the concerned office and giving wrong information to the people, the CMO said in a release here. Since January last year, it has received 13,000 files and cleared more than 12,000 files or above 92 percent.

Income Tax dept launches two ASK centres in city

Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Rajeswara Rao today inaugurated two Ayakar Seva Kendras (ASKs) for the benefit of the tax-payers here.

ASK is a single window contact centre for centralised receipt and registration of certain specified categories of documents, including income tax returns. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rao said this was an effort to change the I-T department’s image from an ‘enforcement agency’ to a service oriented organisation.

Dy.EC to review by polls arrangments on May 5

Chhattisgarh government-appointed mediators have announced that Sukma collector Alex Paul Menon, abducted by Maoists, would be freed within 48 hours.

“There is substantial progress in talks between the state government and Maoists as both the sides reached at an ‘agreement’ on certain points. The Sukma collector will be freed in next 48 hours”, government-appointed mediator Nirmala Buch said.

Suicide bombers kill 10 in Nigeria

Two suicide bombers on motorcycles rammed into a convoy carrying a senior Nigerian police officer on Monday, killing at least 10 people and wounding 26 others.

The attack which took place in Jalingo town in northern state of Taraba targeted the commissioner of police Mamman Sule who was on his way to office.

Sule escaped unhurt in the attack that came a day after motorcycles-borne assailants targeted Christian worshipers at elitist Bayero University in Kano city killing 20 persons.

Platform ticket to now cost Rs five

Get ready to shell out Rs 5 instead of Rs 3 for entering railway platforms across the country as the increased platform ticket rate will come into effect from May 01.

The hike in platform ticket was announced in the Rail Budget in Parliament and accordingly the new rate of platform ticket would be Rs 5 instead of Rs 3, a senior Railway Ministry official said on Monday.

The increased rate of platform tickets will be charged on tickets issued from May 1. A platform ticket is valid for two hours.

Misused SC/ST funds will be brought back: Dy CM

Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of Cabinet Sub-Committee on SC/ST Sub Plan funds C. Damodar Rajanarasimha here on Monday said that the issue of diversion of SC/ST sub-plan funds would be discussed with the heads of all departments and Rs 1,500 crores, which have been diverted for other purposes in the last three years, would be brought back to the fund and utilized on education of SC and ST students.
