Shehla Masood murder: BJP MP Tarun Vijay to be quizzed

New Delhi, September 02: BJP MP Tarun Vijay will be questioned by Madhya Pradesh police in connection with the killing of RTI activist Shehla Masood in Bhopal last month.

A police team from the state will soon visit New Delhi in this regard, the police said today.

“Although it has been decided to question Vijay in connection with Shehla’s murder, no date has been fixed for the visit of the police team to New Delhi,” Bhopal Range IG Vijay Yadav said.

Hyderabad Ganesh festival begins amid tight security

Hyderabad, September 01: Chants of “Ganapati bappa moriya” rent the air as the Ganesh Chavithi (Chaturthi) festival was celebrated here on Thursday amid religious fervour and tight security.

Devotees performed puja at specially-decorated pandals or makeshift platforms erected by neighbourhood and traders associations.

According to Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, over 50,000 idols have been put up in and around Hyderabad for the 10-day festival this year. This is in addition to small idols in apartments and individual houses.

Nasser calls Indian fielders ‘donkeys’

Manchester, September 02: In yet another controversial remark, the former England skipper Nasser Hussain has equated some of the Indian fielders to donkeys during the Twenty20 match between India and England here on Wednesday.

It happened during the fourth over while England was batting. During commentary, Hussain talked about the agility of some of the young Indian lads but later he cut loose.

Nasser said that he was amazed the way some of the Indian fielders chase the ball and they behave much like donkeys.

Key accused in money chain fraud held

Hyderabad, Septembet 01: City police claimed to have nabbed the prime accused in the Nano Excel money chain fraud, who was allegedly carrying out multi-level marketing in the guise of selling nano technology products.

Acting on a complaint, the Commissioner’s Task Force (Central Zone Team) conducted a raid on Nano Excel Enterprises Ltd at Kondapur here and apprehended its Managing Director Harish Babu Maddineni, a senior police officer said.

NY police arrest Muslims over hijab ban

Washington, September 01: Muslims had gathered for Eid al-Fitr festivities, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, in a Westchester County park in New York on Tuesday when they realized that women with headscarves were barred from the amusement park rides, NY Daily News reported on Wednesday.

Objections to the Rye Playland headwear ban broke into scuffles and the park was shut down after police intervened and detained 15 people, including three women that were charged with ‘disorderly conduct and assault.’

Muslims suffer abuse, monitoring in US

Kuwait, September 01: More than 50 percent of American Muslims say the US government’s anti-terrorism policies have singled them out for increased surveillance and monitoring.

According to a report released by the Pew Research Center poll on Tuesday, 55 percent of respondents to the survey have said that being a Muslim in America since 9/11 has been more difficult.

Twenty-eight percent of US Muslims said that people have acted suspicious of them and 22 percent have been called offensive names over the past year.

15 Year Old Shoot by Forces After Eid al-Fitr Prayers

Bahrain, September 01: Bahraini security forces clashed Wednesday with anti-discriminate protesters after Eid al-Fitr prayers, shooting a 15-year-old boy who martyred after being hit by a tear gas canister fired at close range, human rights activists said.

The activists blamed the police for the death of Ali Jawad Ahmad, who was among the crowd of protesters in the oil hub of Sitra.

The Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights cited witnesses as saying the boy martyred after being hit by a tear gas canister fired at close range by police during the demonstration.

Online affair: 3 year prison in Saudi

Riyadh, September 01: A Saudi court sentenced a Palestinian man to three years in prison and ordered him lashed 360 times for having an online affair with a married woman and trying to blackmail her, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The unnamed salesman at a female accessories shop in the eastern port of Dammam had persuaded the woman to e mail him her photographs following several visits to his shop, Sabq Arabic language daily said.

“He started to send her love messages by e mail…he then threatened to send the photographs to her husband unless she makes love with him.”

Priest accused of child abuse found in Kerala

Tirovanathpuram, September 01: A Catholic priest accused of child abuse while in the US is allegedly living a quiet life in Kerala’s Kottayam district. Jacob Vellian has been accused by a woman of sexual abuse 26 years ago when she was a minor. He was then on a temporary assignment in the diocese of Kalamazoo in Youngstown city in Ohio. Vellian is currently staying in a seminary in Kaduthuruthi, sources said. The victim filed a complaint recently after undergoing a “trauma recovery programme”.

Salman Khan’s sea-facing flat in Worli sold for Rs 6 crore

Mumbai, September 01: Actor Salman Khan is learnt to have sold a 1,650 sq ft apartment in Sterling Seaface at Worli for over Rs 6 crore. Located on the ninth floor and giving a scenic view of the Arabian Sea, the three bedroom hall kitchen flat was sold along with two car park lots. The identity of the buyer is not known.

Khan is now searching for buyers to sell a similar sized flat located on the sixth floor in the same building. The 14-storey Sterling Seaface was constructed by construction company, Shapooji Pallonji ten years ago and has all amenities like swimming pool, gym.

ED books Baba Ramdev for Fema violation

New Delhi, September 01: Tightening the noose on the yoga guru, the Enforcement Directorate registered a foreign exchange violation case against Baba Ramdev and his trusts.

The Directorate registered the case on the basis of a report from the RBI and inputs from abroad on “suspicious” financial transactions done by Ramdev’s trusts, the official sources said.

Slain Guj minister’s wife for fresh probe

Ahmedabad, September 01 : The wife of slain Gujarat minister Haren Pandya has sought a reinvestigation into the murder of her husband. This comes two days after the Gujarat High Court acquitted 12 persons accused of murdering Pandya.

A former minister of state for Home in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, Pandya was shot on March 26, 2003 in Ahmedabad when he was out for a walk.

“After eight years, I have lost patience and this judgment has proved that the real killers are roaming free while some others have been put behind bars,” said Jagruti.

BJP slams Omar for Afzal tweet, Congress silent

New Delhi, September 01 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday criticised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his tweet linking the Tamil Nadu assembly resolution on the three men on the death row for the Rajiv Gandhi killing to parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

The Congress declined to comment on Omar’s remarks while the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) hoped that the judicial verdict on the convicts will settle such controversies.

BJP spokesman Shanawaz Hussain said Omar Abdullah’s remarks on Twitter were unfortunate.
