Mumbai, August 04: A potential face-off between the two warring Khans of Bollywood has been averted, thenks largely to their crew members.

Good friends-turned-arch rivals Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were recently shooting simulataneously at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios. Therefore, the onus was on the crew members to ensure that the stars did not set eyes on each other, reported Mid-Day.

Shah Rukh was shooting for an ad with his wife Gauri.

Saudi triplets of Ramadan

Riyadh, August 04: A Saudi woman gave birth to triplets at a hospital in the Gulf Kingdom on the first day of the fasting month of Ramadan, a newspaper said on Thursday.

The 32-year-old mother and her two girls and one boy are all in good condition following the delivery at the obstetrics and gynecology hospital in the eastern port of Dammam on Monday, Ajel Arabic language daily said.

The triplets weighed between 1.6 and 1.9 kg at birth and it was the mother’s second pregnancy, said the hospital director Dr Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi.

Threat of ESMA will not work: Employees to govt

Hyderabad, August 04: A showdown between the government and the employees appears imminent if the words of Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee leaders are taken into account during a relay hunger fast at the Indira Park on Thursday.

Various employees’ union leaders, speaking one after the other at the dharna site, warned the state government against invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to stop them from participating in the proposed strike from August 17.

Uttar Pradesh hospital dumps patients in the field

Allahabad, August 04: Dehumanised, neglected and virtually left on their own – this is the condition of two patients in Allahabad. They have been dumped by a government hospital simply because they are too poor to afford their treatment.

These two have already been abandoned by their relatives.

While 50-year-old Ram Singh was being treated for jaundice, the other patient is about 30 years of age and is suffering from epilepsy.

Ramalinga Raju’s bail plea rejected

Hyderabad, August 04: A Special Court on Thursday rejected the bail application of former Satyam Computers chairman B. Ramalinga Raju and six other accused in the multi-crore accounting fraud.

The XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate B. V. L. N. Chakravarthi pronounced oral orders to this effect. Mr. Raju made a brief appearance in the Court in the morning before being escorted back to Chanchalguda jail. The Magistrate is expected to give written orders on their bail applications later in the evening.

Kashmir youth was ‘tortured’ before death: Autopsy

Srinagar, August 04: In a major blow to the police’s claim, the doctors who carried out the autopsy of Zamin Rashid, who died in police custody in Jammu and Kashmir, confirmed finding torture marks on his body, sources said Thursday.

The 26-year-old died July 31 in north Kashmir’s Sopore town.

The final verdict can only be arrived at after forensic reports corroborate the preliminary evidence, sources said.

Sonia Gandhi undergoes surgery

New Delhi, August 4: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has undergone surgery in the US. The surgery has been successful and Sonia will be in the US for two to three weeks following the same.

Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi confirmed this.

“On the advise of her doctors, she has travelled abroad and she is likely to be away for two-three weeks,” Dwivedi said.

Replying to questions, he said, “We have just got information that the surgery is successful and her condition is satisfactory”.

Malegaon blast: Two accused granted bail by Bombay HC

Mumbai, August 04: In a major setback to National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Bombay high court on Wednesday granted bail to two accused in the September 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case after observing that there was no material to connect the duo to the blast.

Shivnarayan Kalsangra and Shyam Sahu, in custody since October 2008, were granted bail on a surety of Rs one lakh each.

State gets Rs.409.77 cr for schools

Hyderabad, August 04: The Centre has released Rs.409.77 crore as first instalment for setting up 353 model schools in the educationally-backward blocks across the state.

The Centre has sanctioned the amount to the Andhra Pradesh Secondary Education Society under a Centrally-sponsored programme.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, thanked the Union human resource development minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, for releasing the grant.

Mr Reddy said the grant will be utilised on the programme as per the approved guidelines of the Centre.

Why hasty takeover of Nano site?

Kolkata, August 04: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday sought an explanation from the West Bengal government why it took possession of the Nano small car factory land within hours of Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee announcing that the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011, had come into effect.

Justice I.P. Mukerji said Mr. Chatterjee made the announcement that the Act was notified at 6.30 p.m. on July 21 and, according to the records of district authorities, the State was in possession of the land by 8.30 p.m.

Hyderabad, August 04: TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram has said that as a part of Sakalajanula Samme the entire state adminitration would be paralysed.

Speaking at the maha dharna organised by the Telangana Teachers’ JAC at Indira Park, here on Wednesday, attended by 24 teachers’ association representatives, Kodandaram said all the elected representatives from Telangana should quit their posts and submit resignations to the speaker. He said resignations only would help build pressure on the Centre to achieve T state.
