Congress party lacks towering personality in the state: Rosaiah

Hyderabad, May 31: Former chief minister K Rosaiah said that Congress party in the state lacks towering personality hence it feels difficulty in confronting with the challenges faced by the government and the party.

The former chief minister K Rosaiah while discussing the political situation in the state on a TV channel said that the Congress high command had given him the responsibility of chief minister’s post in difficult circumstances and he tried his best to carry out his responsibility. He claimed that Congress faces no risk in the state it is strong enough by numerical strength.

Terrorism can’t be fought selectively

New Delhi, May 31: Terrorism has to be fought on all fronts and not selectively, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday.

The prime minister told a news conference also addressed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel here that terrorism posed “a serious challenge” to the world.

But it “has to be fought on all fronts and not selectively”, he said, in a message clearly directed at the US.

Manmohan Singh said that he and the German chancellor discussed the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, including the Libyan unrest and their impact on global peace and security.

Awareness among Old City Muslims has increased

Hyderabad, May 31: Dr. Amina Kishore, Professor of English of Maulana Azad National Urdu University supervised the Distance Education examinations of Aligarh Muslim University conducted in Hyderabad as an observer.

Addressing the valedictory function of the examination center, she said that awareness among the Muslim Community of the Old City of Hyderabad is increasing.

Following the demise of former chief minister Dr. Y S Rajshekhar Reddy in a helicopter accident the Congress party had nominated her as Congress candidate from Pulivendala assembly constituency and since no other party nominated its candidate in the election she was elected unopposed. However she didn’t step into the assembly session save for one time that too for taking oath as a MLA.

P Anusha, 19 and V Nagaraju, 21 from Yelamanchali were in love but feared their families would oppose the alliance. So they ran away from home.

Mumbai, May 31: The Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge team is back! If rumours are to be believed, veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra is all set to make his directorial comeback and direct Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a film. The film will also star current favourite, Katrina Kaif.

Recently, a daily reported that Kajol was spotted at the Yash Raj Films studio. Sources have informed that the visit was not a casual one.

YRF averts Imran-Katrina clash

Mumbai, May 31: The release date of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, a Yash Raj film starring Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar has been pushed from July to September 9.

The makers saw no point in releasing the film the same month as Imran Khan’s Delhi Belly and Katrina Kaif’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Says an insider, “MBKD is YRF’s next big film. They decided to play it safe rather than battle it out with two other biggies starring their lead stars.

Imran Khan’s DB releases July 1 and Kat’s ZNMD is out July 15. The overlapping of stars might confuse audiences.”

MHA mulls new guidelines for illegal phone taps

New Delhi, May 31: The smokescreen around the secret world of phone taps legal and illegal is all set to clear up. In an unprecedented move, the Union Home Ministry has called police chiefs from across the country on Tuesday on phone tapping.

Perhaps keeping in mind the corporate lobbyist Nira Radia and former BSP leader Amar Singh phone tap scandals, the Home ministry has prepared fresh standard operating procedures.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has got the go ahead to remain as one of the agencies that will be allowed to tap phones.

Monsoon may hit AP today

Hyderabad, May 31: The southwest monsoon set over Kerala on Sunday two days in advance and is expected to arrive in Andhra Pradesh by May 31.

The south-west monsoon has also advanced into most parts of the south Arabian Sea and some parts of Tamil Nadu, south Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officially announced the setting of the monsoon in Kerala on Sunday afternoon.

Pak intruder killed along the Indo-Pak border

Srinagar, May 31: A Pakistani intruder was killed by the security forces along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a BSF officer said today.

BSF troops observed some suspected movement along the Indo-Pak border in Regal Border Out Post in Samba district yesterday and challenged the infiltrator, he said.The intruder, however, failed to stop following which the troops opened fire killing him, he said.The Pak Ranger has refused to take the body of the intruder, he said.

Karachi base attack: Ex-naval commando, brother held

Lahore, May 31: A former naval commando and his brother have been detained here for the terror attack at a key naval base in Karachi, a media report said.

The daily Dawn reported Tuesday that former commando Kamran Ahmed and his brother Zaman were picked up by intelligence agencies.

Terrorists had stormed PNS Mehran in Karachi May 22 and destroyed two surveillance aircraft. The naval base siege lasted for 16 hours.

CID arrests techie for sending obscene mails

Hyderabad, May 31: Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths arrested a software engineer who reportedly broke the engagement of his schoolmate by sending abusive emails to her fiance.

D Hari Prasad, 24, working in a software firm in Kukatpally, was arrested late on Sunday night for sending abusive and obscene emails maligning the character of the girl.

On March 14, the victim lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police of the CID stating that she was receiving abusive emails from an unknown person which had affected her relationship with her fiance.

Video proves Sri Lanka war crimes, says UN expert

Geneva, May 31: A UN human rights expert says gruesome new footage from the final days of Sri Lanka’s civil war is authentic and proves war crimes took place there, challenging the government’s claim that videos showing the army executing captured rebels in May 2009 are faked.

The UN’s independent investigator on extrajudicial killings says the five-minute video obtained by Britain’s Channel 4 corroborates an earlier, shorter video showing blindfolded, naked men being shot dead at close range.
