Data erased from techie’s laptop

Hyderabad, February 24: The mystery behind reasons that drove Infosys employee Sahitya Vyasam to commit suicide continue to baffle investigators as all emails and other content on her laptop were deleted before she jumped to death.

Sahitya Vyasam had jumped to death from the fourth floor of the parking complex inside the Infosys campus in Gachibowli recently. Sources associated with the investigation told Express that the password of her email account was made available yesterday. “It appears as though Sahitya had deliberately deleted all contents in her email,” an investigator said.

Sahitya’s laptop was found near her seat. It had to be sent to the Infosys headquarters in Bangalore to get the password and break open the account. “Neither her friends nor her family members are telling anything. We do not have any clue,” a police official said. Sources said the theory that something could have gone wrong with regard to her marriage with US-based Rushi too has yielded nothing.

“Sahitya met Rushi while they were pursuing engineering in Mathusri College of Engineering a few years ago. Later, both convinced their parents and decided to get married. Rushi was to arrive a couple of days ago from the US with their engagement scheduled for next Sunday and marriage in March,” sources said.

They said Sahitya’s brother and another relative told them that Rushi was a nice boy and there was absolutely no problem. “The girl’s parents have to come forward to tell us if there was any problem but they refuse to speak,” sources said.

The call records of Sahitya’s mobile phone obtained by police show that she spoke to her parents, an uncle based in the US and then Rushi, with whom she had a fairly long conversation. Soon after, she jumped to death. “We will probe whether Sahitya was being harassed by someone either outside or within the office,” an investigator said.

28yearold Sahitya had jumped from the fourth floor and landed on top of a worker, Lambodar, who is undergoing treatment for a broken back.
