Uttar Pradesh-based Darul Uloom seminary, Darul Ifta, in Deoband on Thursday issued a fatwa against the chanting of the controversial nationalist slogan, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, saying there is only one God in Islam.
According to the reports, the fatwa asked muslims to refrain from raising such slogan saying ‘it is against the faith of Islam’.
“We love our country, but it is not our god. In Islam, we believe in only one God and hence it is against the faith of a Muslim to chant the slogan,” the fatwa issued by the Deoband seminary said.
The reports added that the fatwa against the slogan, being promoted aggressively by the BJP and its ideological mentor the RSS, was passed following a two-day long hectic deliberation by eight-member panel of Islamic scholars from all over the country in Deoband.
Last month, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had created a controversy by saying he will not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai,’ comments that came against the backdrop of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s suggestion that the new generation needs to be taught to chant slogans hailing mother India.
