Widow of slain liquor smuggler Dara Singh, who was killed in an alleged fake encounter, has demanded action against the CBI director and Attorney General accusing them of shielding a BJP leader who allegedly played a role in his elimination.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on March 30, Sushila Devi alleged that the CBI director and the Attorney General were shielding BJP MLA Rajendra Rathore in the fake encounter case and party leaders were also lobbying in Delhi for him.
Sushila alleged that Rathore was trying to influence investigation and threatening her.
She asked the PM to give his consent for a case against the two officials and also demanded arrest of Rathore.
“CBI Director and Attorney General shielded Rathore and he was not arrested. Rathore is provoking people at separate places.
BJP leaders are also lobbying in New Delhi with central ministers and influential people for Rathore,” she
alleged in the letter.
The woman also threatened to immolate herself before the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi if she does not get
justice.
“I want justice. If it is not done, then I could be forced to set myself on fire in front of your residence and
the government will be responsible,” she warned.
Referring to cases of politicians like Yeddyurappa, A Raja, Kanimozhi, Suresh Kalmadi, Mahipal Maderna, Malkhan
Singh and Bibi Jagir Kaur, Sushila said when such people can go behind bars then why Rajendra Rathore was being protected? The alleged fake encounter of Dara Singh took place on October 23, 2006 by Special Operation Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police on the outskirts of the city.
The SOG claimed that Singh was fleeing from its custody and was killed in an encounter.
However, the encounter was challenged as being fake by his wife Sushila and the investigation was handed over to CBI.
Two IPS officers –A K Jain and A Ponnuchamy are among several other policemen who are behind bars in connection with the case.
