Opining that intra-party differences led to the party’s rout in the GHMC elections, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender tendered his resignation to the party post owning moral responsibility for the debacle in the GHMC elections.
Speaking to mediapersons at his residence here on Saturday after tendering resignation to the party post, Nagendar said he spared no efforts for party victory though he not given responsibility of GHMC elections. He said the ruling party succeeded in wooing the voters. He said the traditional voters of the Congress like the SC, ST, BC and Minorities have drifted away from the party resulting in party rout in the GHMC elections. He has already sent a detailed report to the party high command on the reasons that led to the party biting dust in the civic elections, he added.
Stating that defeat and victory are common in the elections, Danam said he would continue in the party as an activist. He said he would extend his cooperation to the developmental activities of the State government. “I honor the verdict of the people. The TRS has to work sincerely to meet the aspirations of the people of Hyderabad and it has to fulfill the assurances given to the people”, he said. He said the Congress would mount pressure on the State government to fulfill the assurances made by it. He urged the party leaders to bury differences in the welfare of the party. (NSS)
