New Delhi, July 12: The Annual General Meeting of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) would be held on July 31 although any chance of electoral battle between Sourav Ganguly and current chief Jagmohan Dalmiya appears remote.
“The 78th AGM of the CAB will be held on July 31,” CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya told reporters after the state body’s working committee meeting at Eden Gardens here today.
Asked about Ganguly’s foray into administration that led to speculation of the former India captain’s eye on the BCCI top in 2014, Dalmiya said, “You are saying that. (If he is fighting), he is most welcome.”
Dalmiya is likely to continue with his panel members with any opposition yet to stake claim.
Ganguly had earlier said he was yet to decide anything.
There have been a lot of names doing the rounds to oppose Dalmiya, ranging from former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to Union Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed.
The former BCCI supremo Dalmiya has a clean record at the CAB having held the top post since 1993 except for a 19-month break from end December 2006 to the middle of last year.
Dalmiya had stepped down from the CAB top post towards 2006 end after a ban imposed by the Sharad Pawar-led BCCI.
