Dalits have always been insulted in India on a large scale: Mayawati

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday squarely blamed both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, besides other political outfits for perpetrating large scale atrocities on Dalits across the country.
Addressing media in Lucknow with reference to the recent burning to death of two children in a village in the Ballabhgarh area of Haryana earlier this week, and also the murder of a 15-year-old Dalit boy in Gohana area of the same state allegedly by police, Mayawati said, “Dalits have always been exploited and insulted at all levels on a large scale, whether it is by the regimes of the Congress, the BJP and other opposition parties, whether it is at the Centre or in the states.”

Referring specifically to the death of the two Dalit children in Ballabgarh, she said, “”It’s a shameful incident. It clearly indicates that the BJP is not at all concerned or sensitive about Dalits.”

“A Dalit family was burnt alive under police protection in the BJP-ruled state of Haryana. These governments have also been trying to protect the culprits who commit atrocities against Dalits. This shows their communal mindset towards Dalits,” Mayawati said. (ANI)
