Dalit nose chopped off for having Dinner with upper caste Hindu

In a shocking incident, a Dalit man’s nose was chopped off by members of the elite upper caste after he displayed the temerity to break bread with them at a ‘barat’.

The caste violence incident took place at Surpati village in Madhogarh area of Jalaun.

According to a report published in The Times of India , Amar Singh, who works as a labourer in the Dalit-dominated village, had gone to a wedding with his master’s family. He had committed the “crime” of having food with them which created uproar.

“Some people on the bride’s side raised the issue with them which created quite a scene at the wedding as the other guests threatened to leave without having food on discovering that a Dalit was also breaking bread with them,” Daddu Prasad, ex-minister and a prominent Dalit BSP leader was quoted.

When the bride’s side raise objections and refused to eat the food tainted by a Dalit, the upper caste family members are reported to have told Amar Singh, “Tumne hamaari naak katwa di. Ab hum tumhaari naak kaatenge. (Since you caused us such humiliation, you shall get equivalent punishment).” After which, they forced him down and slashed his nose with a domestic knife.

Bleeding profusely, Amar was rushed to a Jhansi hospital. Jhansi DIG AK Singh registered a case after but due to the ‘political connections,’ no arrests have been made so far.
