Dalit leader Mewani won’t join any party, wants ‘arrogant BJP’ to go

Gandhinagar: Dalit youth leader Jignesh Mewani on Thursday said he won’t join any political party but wanted the “arrogant BJP government” ousted in Gujarat.

Addressing the media, Mewani said the Bharatiya Janata Party government was not even ready to discuss Dalit issues.

“The SC community is heavily discontented with the BJP government. It is a hypocritical government,” Mewani said.

“They even discriminate against Dalit martyrs like Kishore Vanavi… The BJP had promised Rs 4 lakh to his family but they have not given anything to them.

“They are not even ready to have discussion regarding our issues which we have been asking for one-and-a-half years.

“We don’t want this arrogant BJP government at any cost. But at the same time we also won’t be joining or supporting any political party,” he added.

Mewani said a Congress leader had asked him to meet party Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

“So I will go and meet him but not for personal gains, but to see their approach towards our 17 demands. Then our community will decide at the time of (the Gujarat Assembly) election (who to vote for).”
