Thiruvananthapuram:A young Dalit woman was brutally raped and killed at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district, police said.
The 30-year-old woman was a law graduate who lived with her mother.
The body was found on Friday night after her mother returned home from work.
According to the police, the woman was strangulated. Her intestines had come out and there were deep wounds on various parts of the body.
The victim’s neighbour said the family was reclusive. The girl’s father was estranged for several years.
Rural SP Yathish Chandra said they were yet to receive the postmortem report, so rape could not be ascertained.
The CPM accused the Congress-led UDF government of inaction in tracing the culprits. “Police have failed to get any leads about the culprits days after the incident,” CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said.
Rejecting the charge, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said a “scientific” probe was being conducted into the incident and asserted the culprits would be brought to book.
No arrests have been made in the last four days.
Police said Ernakulam Range IG Mahipal Yadav was supervising a probe by a team of officials, headed by the Perumbavoor Deputy SP.
