Dalit dies in police custody, case registered

Muzaffarnagar, July 08: A middle-aged dalit was beaten to death in police custody in Chapar area of this Uttar Pradesh district late last night.

Superintendent of Police (city) Rajiv Malhotra today said Rajbal (50) was taken to police custody along with his brother Mayaram over a land dispute with Rajesh and Swaraj late yesterday.

He was thrashed by the police and was declared brought dead by the medicos in the hospital at night.

Later, an enraged mob staged protest demanding registration of a case last night, wherein, the brawl snowballed and a woman was slapped by Circle Officer (city) Alok Priyadarshi.

This morning, the mob protested outside the post-mortem house demanding registration of a case against the guilty policemen A case has, meanwhile, been registered against seven people, including three policemen.
