Punjab, October 19: A dalit couple on Saturday allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a canal near Daudhar village under Badhnikalan police station of Moga district in Punjab.
The couple was under dipression due to some ailment and poverty since a long time, the police said.
Harnek Singh and his wife Manjeet Kaur, residents of Rasulpur, jumped into the Abohar branch canal.
Their bodies were found on Sunday evening, the police added.
The couple had seven children and their financial condition was very weak.
They were suffering from an ailment and were unable to afford costly treatments, the residents said.
In another case, a couple committed suicide in Madhavram in Chennai dy drinking poison on Saturday saddened by the death of their 10 years old child.
The chid demised after a knee operation six months ago.
