Dalit acid attack victim attacked fifth time, even after Yogi Adityanath promised her protection

Lucknow: The acid attack victim, whom Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met in the hospital in March, faced the same brutal act again even after the CM had promised her protection.

A gangrape and acid attack survivor was attacked again at Aliganj in Uttar Pradesh and has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition. This is the fifth time the woman was attacked with acid.

She has sustained burn injuries on her face and neck, police said, adding that no FIR has been registered yet and they are waiting for the complaint.

The Rai Bareli police detained Bhondu Singh and Guddu Singh, the two men accused of gang-raping her, late on Saturday night.

The latest incident took place on Saturday night near a hostel where she resides. She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.

She was gang-raped in 2008 and a case was registered in this regard at Unchahar town of Raebareli district. She was first attacked with acid in 2011, followed by other serious attacks in 2011, twice in 2012 and another in 2013.

The Dalit victim was attacked by the same group of suspects. She was allegedly forced to drink a ‘corrosive liquid’ on 23 March by unidentified persons on a train when she was returning to Lucknow from her village.

The woman works at Lucknow’s Sheroes Hangout Cafe, which is run by several acid-attack survivors. Her husband and two kids live in Rae Bareli.
