The Dalai Lama has said that Tibetans who have committed suicide in recent weeks are “not crazy” but were taking desperate action to escape Chinese “brutality”. The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader said this while addressing a gathering of some 3,500 supporters in the city of Trento in northern Italy, reports The News. There have been over 100 self-immolations by pro-Tibet protesters in the past six months, during China”s leadership transition. Most of them have died from the injuries sustained in their act of protest. Tibetan rights advocates say the self-immolations aim to protest Chinese rule and call for the return of exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. China, however, blames the Dalai Lama”s supporters of encouraging the suicides. (ANI)
