Dairutul Maarif, OU gets Rs. 38 crore from GOI

Government of India has agreed to sanction a project to the tune of Rs. 38 crore for the restoration of the grandeur of Dairutul Maarif. This was revealed by Dr. Maya Ram, Secretary, Ministry of Minorities Affairs, Govt. of India in a review meeting held at Hyderabad yesterday. Present in the meeting were Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Telangana State, Mr. Mohammed Jalaaluddin Akbar, IFS, Director of Minorities Welfare, Govt. of Telangana, Prof. Mohammed Mustafa Shareef, Director of Dairutul Maarif, Mr. Mohammed Asadullah, EO of Wakf Board and Mr. Satyanarayana, Joint Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Govt. of Telangana.

Dr. Maya Ram expressed his interest in the English translation of the publications of Dairutul Maarif including rare manuscripts, their digitalization and reprinting. He instructed the officials of Dairutul Maarif to send the details to Govt. of India. He agreed in principle to sanction a project worth Rs. 37.7 crore. For the implementation of this project, Govt. of India will sanction grand-in-Aid. He suggested that the proposals of project report should be sent through the CM of Telangana State who is also the chairman of Dairutul Maarif. He assured that as soon as project report is received, grant-in-aid would be released. Govt. of Telangana has to share 10% amount of this project. If the Grant-in-Aid is released the project can be started in August 2015.

It is reported that Mrs. Maya Ram is a research scholar who visited Dairutul Maarif a number of times and apprised her husband Dr. Maya Ram about its importance.

Dr. Maya Ram further told that Govt. of India has finalized the bifurcation of Wakf Board but it is awaiting final proposals from both the Governments. Telangana Govt. has already forwarded its proposal but Govt. of A.P. has to send a report on its objections. As soon as the proposals are received from both the Governments, Govt. of India will issue the notification of bifurcation of Wakf Board.

Dr. Maya Ram also instructed both the Governments to start implementation of pre-matric scholarships for minorities for the current year. Applications for this will be started soon. Officials of Telangana and A.P. state briefed him about various welfare schemes in their respective states and desired the cooperation of the Central Govt. in their implementation.
