Ministry of Minorities Affairs, Govt. of India has agreed to grant Rs. 13 crore for digitization and printing of rare Arabic Manuscripts and books. This grant will be released in 4 installments in the next 5 years. Secretary of the Ministry of Minorities Affairs, Dr. Arvind Mayaram visited Dairatul Maarif of Osmania University yesterday with other officials of the Ministry. He suggested to expand the activities of the institution and to make available all the valuable records to pubic. He was accompanied by Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Joint Secretary, Mr.P.K. Sharma, Undersecretary and Mr. Ali Ahmed Khan, Secretary of Central Wakf Council, New Delhi. Present on this occasion were Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Special Secretary, Department of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Mohammed Jalaaluddin Akbar, IFS, Special Officer of Wakf Board, Prof. S.A. Shukoor, M.D. of Minorities Finance Corporation and Prof. Mohammed Mustafa Shareef, Director of Dairatul Maarif of Osmania University.
Dr. Arvind Mayaram told that he is very much by the functioning of Dairatul Marif since his wife had visited the institution as a research scholar earlier. He went through the Arabic translation of Gita. He instructed the Secretary of the Department of Minorities Welfare to send proposals for sanctioning funds. He was told that a scheme to the tune of Rs. 13 crore has been prepared which will be sent to the Center within a week. The Central Team inspected various sections of Dairatul Maarif like Editing, Composing, Printing and Binding and expressed the need to modernize them. They also said that renovation of the present and construction of a new building with a seminar hall and auditorium is essential. He also said that the details of the publications of Dairatul Maarif should be made available in English also so that non – Arabic knowing persons should know its importance. He suggested that the book written by Alamah Raazi should be published in English and Hindi also. Central Team also suggested that all the publications of the institution should be displayed on internet in the form of E – Book so that they could be made use of internationally. Prof. Mustafa Sharee and Prof. Abdul Majeed presented the issues of the employees of the institution. Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel assured that these problems would be resolved soon.
