Hyderabad, August 08: With this year’s monsoon turning out to be a damp squib and water levels in five major reservoirs — Krishna, Singur, Manjira, Osmansagar and Himayathsagar — receding with each passing day, the HMWS&SB would take a review on the daily water supply in November/December month-end.
The combined storage capacity of these five reservoirs is about 39.816 TMC.
The present combined water storage in these five reservoirs are satisfactory (10 TMC) as compared to last year’s water storage of 7 TMC and can meet the drinking needs of the Twin Cities for next one year. But if there aren’t sufficient rains between August and October this year, the situation might change. And the Water Board might resort to alternate day water supply.
As of now, the daily water supply will be continued, HMWS&SB Managing Director, M T Krishna Babu told reporters.
“We are expecting good rains and inflows into the five reservoirs during the next three months which may increase the water levels and storage capacity,” he said.
The Managing Director along with senior HMWS&SB officials on Friday rushed to Bholakpur area after receiving complaints of polluted water supply in the area.
They found that four houses with pit taps were getting polluted water. The connections were sealed and water tankers are being sent to these households.
The Water Board has laid pipelines in Bholakpur at a cost of Rs 60 lakh.
Another Rs 70 lakh would be spent for laying distribution lines and giving free service connections to all the households in Bholakpur area. And for sewerage maintenance in the area, Rs 3.40 crore would be spent.
The Water Board will spend Rs 10 crore for refurbishing the old water system of Osmansagar, Himayathsagar, Singur and Manjira by replacing the filter beds, old pipelines and arresting the leakages.
