A man in Nepal has been arrested on suspicion of beating his three daughters to death with stones in the country’s remote southern plains, local police said on Friday.
The 35-year-old from Phaparbari village in Makawanpur district had admitted to killing his daughters aged nine, 10 and 12 while they were sleeping in their house on Thursday evening, local police officer Kushar Basnet said.
“He has confessed to killing all his daughters with stones. He repeatedly struck them on the head,” Basnet told AFP by telephone.
Basnet said the suspect was looking after the girls alone in the isolated home while his wife and son were attending a neighbour’s wedding.
“We couldn’t find the exact motive for the killing but the man is mentally disabled and had drunk some alcohol that night,” he said.
Basnet said police were still investigating and had not yet charged the man with murder, which carries a 20-year jail sentence.
