Dacoity of copper plates worth over Rs 2 cr in Thane district

The Thane district rural police today reported a daring dacoity of over Rs two crores in the western belt of Thane district.

Police Inspector Mukund Mahajan of the Nalla Sopara police station said two trailers laden with copper plates were dispatched from Sterlite company at Silvassa bound for JNPT. The trailers contained total of 45 tonnes of copper plates valued at about Rs 2.27 crores, and were being transported on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway towards JNPT in Uran.

When the trailers were passing through the jungles on the highway near nalla sopara, a group of six to seven unidentified persons accosted the vehicles and pulled down the drivers , dumped them on the roadside and fled with the consignment and the trailers. the police said.

This incident happened some time before 22 hrs last night according to the complaint by the owner of the Rajan Brothers Transport company Rajan R Nadar.

The two drivers who were on the wheels were Umesh Bind and Rakesh Yadav. Since the incident both the drivers are not traceable and even their cells are not reachable, the police said. The Nalla Sopara police who have registered an offence under section 395 and have launched a manhunt for the desperodeos, the police added. UNI
