Mumbai, May 06: Sonu Sood plays the character of Cheddi Singh, a rustic young man from the heartland of India, in Salman Khan starrer DABANGG. In the film he is required to adapt a particular lingo which is quite identifiable when it comes to the territory of UP and Bihar.
However, for this Punjab boy, it wasn’t difficult at all to get hold of not just the lingo but also the body language and also mannerisms since in his college days, he had interacted with quite a few youngsters from this side of the country.
‘During my four years of Engineering studies at Nagpur, I shared a room with quite a few friends of mine who came from UP and Bihar. We used to be together 24X7 and participated in so many extra curricular activities together. Over a period of time, that pretty much helped me understand their body language and the way they spoke’, remembers Sonu who played the role of a goon from UP in his first major film YUVA as well.
‘That’s right, my interaction with these fellow students really helped me’, says Sood, ‘Of course at that time I didn’t know that one day I would be offered a role where I would have to recreate characters that had similar mannerisms as that of my friends. But subconsciously, this was imbibed in me and played on in my mind for years to follow. Due to that, I could instantly get the character right when the script of YUVA came to me. Same holds good for DABANGG as well as all I had to do was recreate what I had seen of my friends a few years back.’
