DA worth Rs 70.38 lakh recovered from SI’s house

Hyderabad, June 29: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today unearthed disproportionate assets worth Rs 70.38 lakh during simultaneous raids conducted at the office and house of Rajahmundry Prohibition and Excise Sub-Inspector Katta Venkata Ramana and houses of his relatives and friends.

According to a press release here, the officials conducted simultaneous searches at different places covering office, residential premises of the accused at Trinetra Towers in Rajahmundry, house of his father-in-law at Nidadavolu, house of his brother-in-law at Bhimavaram and houses of his close friends at Kakinada and Rajahmundry, resulting in unearthing of total assets worth over Rs 70.38 lakh.

The accused possessed one four-storied commercial complex in Kakinada, one flat each at Kakinada and Rajahmundry, four house sites in Rajahmundry, three house sites in Kakinada, one house site in Anakapalli, one house site at Medchal in RR District and 1.5 acre agricultural land at Korangi. Besides, the accused possessed one Maruti car, two motorcycles, bank balance of Rs 1.59 lakh, ten sovereigns of gold, cash of Rs 10,000 and household articles worth Rs 3.16 lakh. A case of disproportionate assets was registered against the accused, who would be produced before Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Vijayawada.

Meanwhile, Giddalur Mandal Surveyor Veerla China Allurayya in Prakasam District was caught red handed by the ACB officials at his office today when he accepted Rs 5,000 as a bribe from the complainant for doing an official favour. The tainted amount was recovered from the accused, who was arrested and produced before the Special Court, Nellore, the release added.
