Hyderabad, August 25: Stating cyber crime offences were rising at an alarming rate, Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan said on Tuesday that such offences will only increase in the coming days.
While inaugurating the new cyber crime police station in the premises of the Central Crime Station, AK Khan said the city police felt the need for starting a dedicated cyber police station as the number of cyber crime cases has been on the rise. Till now, there had been only a ‘cyber cell’ for dealing with cyber offences.
In 2008, 18 such offences were reported and the number has risen to 50 in 2009. Till July in this year, already 35 cases have been registered. Khan said cyber crimes have been increasing with expansion of the Information Technology (IT) industry in Hyderabad.
Police said the cyber crime police station would deal with cyber crimes of unauthorised access and hacking, trojan attack, virus and worm attack, e-mail related crimes, e-mail related spoofing, e-mail spamming, e-mail bombing, sending threatening e-mails, defamatory e-mails, e-mail frauds, denial of service attacks, pornography, forgery, Intellectual Property Rights violations, cyber terrorism, banking or credit card related crimes, e-commerce, cyber stacking, identity theft, data diddling, source code theft and breach of privacy and confidentiality.
The police station would also deal with UK job frauds, phishing, lottery, investment, conference and akota seeds frauds, accounts take overs and drug peddling. It would also provide IT-related training to policemen.
The police station will have one assistant commissioner of police and two inspectors. It will house a separate cyber crime lab.
