New Delhi, September 25: The Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell on Saturday appreciated the efforts of India in finishing pending works at the Commonwealth venues and the games village.
He further expressed hope that remaining work will be completed in the next eight days for the successful conduct of the mega event.
Addressing a press conference a day after visiting the Games Village, Fennell said “considerable work has been done.”
But despite the controversy-marred build-up to CWG, Fennell asserted that calling off the Games “was never” on Commonwealth Games Federation’s (CGF) agenda.
The CGF Chief further said that the instead of playing the blame game the authorities should concentrate on conducting a safe and successful Games whatever the scale of effort be equired.
Fennell lauded the food arrangements and the arrangements at international centre of the village.
“The international centre is complete and in good shape. The food is excellent which is very important for preparing athletes.”
Both Kalmadi and Fennell had to face a barrage of uncomfortable questions on India’s under-preparedness and the OC chief, in particular, came in for extensive grilling by both the Indian and international media.
Meanwhile, the Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi asserted that the international chefs de missions have given thumps up to the security measures being taken up for the mega event.
”The Jama Masjid (shootout) incident is not related to the Games. These are minor issues, blown out of proportion,” he said.
Kalmadi added that the Games Village is absolutely ready and only some blocks have to be cleaned up.
He expressed confidence on the successful conduct of the games. We are doing everything possible to your satisfaction.
“I can assure you that our aim is to host good Games. Our aim is to do as good as Melbourne,” he said.’
