CWG scam: HC issues notice to CBI on bail plea of accused

New Delhi, July 07: The Delhi High Court today issued notice to the CBI on the plea of A K Reddy, promoter of Hyderabad-based AKR Constructions, seeking anticipatory bail in the CWG Timing, Scoring and Results system scam.

Reddy, who is evading arrest in the case in which sacked CWG OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and former Secretary General Lalit Bhanot are in jail, has moved the High Court after the special CBI Judge had dismissed his plea on June 15.

Taking note of the application of Reddy, who had already been declared a proclaimed offender, a bench of Justice Mukta Gupta asked the probe agency to respond by July 12, the next date of hearing.

Earlier, the lower court imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Reddy for wasting its precious time by seeking recall of its order declaring him a proclaimed offender on May 23.

Reddy”s firm AKR Construction was sub-contracted the TSR work by Gem International which, itself, was a sub-contractor of Swiss firm — Swiss Timing.

The agency has said that a loss of around Rs 95 crore was caused to the state by the accused in the award of TSR contract to the Swiss firm.

Rejecting the bail plea, the lower court had said “even after the proclamation was issued, no plausible explanation came forward from Reddy in respect of transfer of Rs 12.88 crore by Gem International, a company of another accused.
