New Delhi, August 05: Corruption-hit Commonwealth Games preparation received another jolt on Thursday. The compounding woes fuelled with another scam surfaced in awarding contract for laying synthetic surfaces at RK Khanna tennis stadium.
It seems that the Commonwealth Games organizing Committee has taken the mega event as an opportunity to please family and friends.
In a clear case of family interest, a contract was awarded to Australian firm ‘Rebound Ace’ whose Indian distributors chief is the son of Organising Committee treasurer Anil Khanna.
The contract for laying 14 synthetic surfaces at Tennis Arena was awarded to Aditya Khanna headed Rebound Ace India Private Limited.
Interestingly, the top Tennis players including Roger Federer had criticized the Rebound Ace’s turf in past. In 2007, the Australian Open Organicing Committee had replaced the turf laid by Rebound Ace following criticism.
According to the sources, a top Indian player also twisted his ankle while practicing at RK Khanna stadium. Also Read: Rental exceeds the cost price
Reacting on the issue, Anil Khanna denied all the allegations saying there was no role of Organising Committee in awarding contract.
He said that the International Tennis Federation had recommended three names, including Rebound Ace.
