Kanpur, March 20: A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into an alleged custodial death here in which four police personnel were suspended. The enquiry was ordered by the district administration here yesterday.
Mukesh, a resident of the city, was allegedly picked up by police from Anandpuri area here on March 4 and detained for interrogation in a case related to narcotic smuggling. His body was later found in a village of Kanpur (Dehat) district on March 10.
A post mortem confirmed that Mukesh had been strangled to death. “Four police personnel of Rail Bazar police station — Rajesh Kumar, Arun Upadhaya, Rakesh Dubey and Manoj Kumar– were suspended on March 16,” Kanpur DIG Prem Prakash said.
Inspector of Rail Bazar police station J B Pandey was arrested on March 14 on charges of kidnapping and killing Mukesh, while, on March 18, Head Constable Rajesh Kumar was arrested, he said. Efforts are on to nab the other policemen, the DIG said.
