Curfew relaxed in Madannapet, Saidabad areas, situation peaceful

The indefinite curfew which was clamped in Madannapet and Saidabad Police Station areas following communal riots on Sunday last was relaxed for four hours from 1100 hours this morning to enable the people to purchase essential commodities. Police sources said the situation during the curfew relaxation period was by and large peaceful even as police deployments continued. The curfew would be reimposed again from 1500 hrs this afternoon and was likely to be continued for few more days, the sources added.

The sources said the areas where curfew was imposed were being watched by the police personnel. About 12 persons had been arrested during the last two days for their involvement in the communal clashes. Police pickets were posted at all strategic points and religious places. APSRTC buses were cancelled in the curfew- related areas and also in sensitive places in the old city as a precautionary measure. The police have clamped section 144 of CrPC in the city. It may be recalled that the communal clashes broke out on April 8 due to a animal carcass thrown into a religious place at Saidabad. UNI
