Authorities in Meghalaya today clamped an indefinite curfew in Dalu area under West Garo Hills district after clashes between two tribal groups over A’king (clan) land, an official said.
A woman Jayanti Sangma was hacked to death and five houses were reduced to ashes by an unruly mob, the official said. West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said an indefinite curfew has been imposed in all areas under Dalu police station since 1700 hours this evening following the clashes between two tribal Garo clans over a land rights.
He said five houses were reduced to ashes at Ganbanga and Dapgre villages under Dalu police station.
“No one so far has been arrested and the police have registered a case in connection with the murder of the woman and arsons,” Mr Bakshi said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of police Mukesh Kumar Singh and senior district officials have rushed to Dalu and took stock of the situation. UNI
