Additional force was rushed to commmunal violence-hit Bareilly where an indefinite curfew had been imposed yet again in four police station areas the city.
The decision was taken following communal violence on the occasion of Janmashtmi late last night in which several people including some policemen and mediapersons were injured. The curfew here was lifted only recently after 17 days but fresh violence forced authorities to impose curfew in Baradari, Kotwali, Kila and Premnagar police station areas of the city.
The fresh trouble had started after Janmashtmi procession was stoned by some miscreants followed by violent incidents in which a police vehicle and some other properties were set afire in Jagatpur area. Police had to use teargas and lathis to disperse the mob which was also firing. Some policemen and mediapersons were injured in the incident.
Inspector General of Police (Range) of Bareilly Devendra Singh Chauhan said no untoward incident was reported since last night and the additional force had been deployed in curfew-bound areas as well as other parts of the district.
Two police sub-inspectors were placed under suspension in view of the incidents, he said.
