CTO caught taking bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh

Hyderabad, March 17: Five government officials were caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while taking bribe in separate instances across the state while unaccounted cash was found during surprise checks on two sub-registrar offices in East Godavari district.

The commercial tax officer, who is also the incharge assistant commissioner (intelligence) in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in Nizamabad district, J Prabhakar, was trapped by ACB yesterday when he took `2.50 lakh bribe from a person to reduce the VAT and return the registers and documents to the latter. Prabhakar took the amount through a senior assistant K Lingam and gave it to his assistant, T Rajeshwar, to keep it in his custody. Lingam asked Rajeshwar to give Rs 20,000 from the bribe amount to an auditor P Srinivas, an official release said today.

The bribe amount was recovered from the trio and all the four accused were held.

Meanwhile, an industrial promotion officer in the District Industries Centre at Sangareddy in Medak G Vijayasri, was caught today when she took Rs 4,000 bribe from a person to process a file for release of investment subsidy under the industrial policy scheme for SCs and STs for purchase of a car.

In another trap, the village revenue officer (VRO) of Nallachelemala village in Devanakonda mandal of Kurnool E Seethramulu was caught when he took Rs 4,000 bribe from a person to do an official favour.
